FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE IN URBAN ENVIRONMENT: A MULTI-SCALAR ENDEAVOR

Harmonia’s workshop will focus on shedding light on the various administrative levels that contribute to tackling Climate Change within the project, from the pilot cities to the national and European levels. The aim of this workshop is to connect the urban and Earth Observation (EO) communities as well as increase awareness in regards to EO-based solutions tackling climate change in an urban environment.

HARMONIA was presented by Julia Nerantzia Tzortzi (Politecnico di Milano) in front of 200 participants during the third day of the GEO Week, in the side event: Showcasing the EuroGEO Regional Initiative. The HARMONIA project was presented as a Support System for Improved Resilience and Sustainable Urban areas to cope with Climate Change and Extreme Events based on GEOSS. The project team looked in particular at the challenges to be addressed, the project´s priorities and its needs for data.

Project coordinator Julia Nerantzia Tzortzi (Politecnico di Milano) also presented HARMONIA in the SCOUT workshop on urban planning in a changing climate, in the session called Best practice example from a H2020- funded project. The presentation focused on the achievements and technology of the HARMONIA platform.

On Friday 19 November, our partners from URBASOFIA participated in the Conference: Participatory Design: city, environment and climate change, experiences, challenges & potentials,
organized by participatory LAB and Commonspace Coop. Laurine Duivon, Yulia Barsukova, Pietro Elisei and Sabina Leopa (URBASOFIA) presented HARMONIA in the session Stakeholder engagement: Shaping vertical and horizontal governance frames to get real impact through locally rooted projects.
